Michaelis, Max
(1860-1932)
   South African art patron, of German origin. He went to South Africa from Germany at the age of 16 and became a diamond buyer in Kimberley. Later he settled in Capetown and became a benefactor of art. He endowed the Michaelis School of Fine Art at the University of Capetown.
